With the NHL lockout settled, the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft is back on and set for June 30 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Eligible for this draft will be players born after Sept. 15, 1993, and before Sept. 15, 1995. Because the vast majority of players drafted by NHL teams each year are in their first year of eligibility, scouts and Entry Draft aficionados call this the “Class of 1995” draft.

Chaz Weaver is special. He loves popcorn. And hot chocolate. He loves fun. and One Direction too. And, boy, does he love his hockey. So much so that he has become an honorary board member of Anoka Area Hockey Association.

With no Wild hockey during the recently concluded lockout, local fans turned their attention to Minnesota’s Texas based farm team in Houston which made an appearance at the X in November to give everyone a chance to see all that future Wild talent in action. Older fans will recall the World Hockey Association’s Houston entry, also called the Aeros, on their trips into St. Paul to take on our own Minnesota Fighting Saints. Those Aeros are best remembered for the Howes, icon Gordie continuing his pro career with sons Mark and Marty.
But who remembers the Houston Huskies? I don’t see anybody out there raising their hands, so let me introduce you to this earlier minor pro hockey team and its ties to the State of Hockey.
