Oscar Almquist Award winner: Bill Kronschnabel

The Oscar Almquist Award is given annually to a non-coach individual who has contributed to the success of high school hockey by advancing opportunities for players and coaches.

In 36 years as a Minnesota State High School League official, Bill Kronschnabel left his mark as one of the best and most respected men to officiate the game.

Dave Peterson Award winner: Dave Esse

The Dave Peterson Award is given annually to a high school coach who has shown great leadership in developing youth hockey either locally or statewide.

Dave Esse has been a part of the staff at Cloquet/Esko/Carlton for 21 years, including the last 11 seasons as the Lumberjacks’ head coach.

Appleton’s Anna Westmark named Wisconsin Ms. Hockey

Anna Westmark of Appleton United Girls Hockey Team was named Ms. Hockey Wisconsin on March 1 at the Wisconsin State High School Tournament as a Senior and Captain of the Appleton United Girls Hockey Team. The selection of Ms. Hockey Wisconsin is by vote of the Wisconsin coaches.The other finalists were Katherine Nejedlo (Fond du Lac), Kendall Nelson (Tomahawk) and Macki Fadness (Eau Claire).

A senior captain, Westmark had 56 points (28 goals, 28 assists) in 25 games to lead her team in scoring for the fourth consecutive year. Her high school career scoring record is 115 goals and 71 assists (186 total points) and she is Appleton United’s all-time leading scorer.

Bruce Johnson Award winner: Greg Rajanen

The Bruce Johnson Award is given to an active Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association board member, or an individual who has recently served on the board, for outstanding contributions in promoting the association and the sport of hockey.

For more than 30 years now, Greg Rajanen has been involved in coaching high school hockey in the state of Minnesota.

MHCA inducts four into Hall of Fame

The Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association (MHCA) inducted four hockey legends into the Hall of Fame during the boys’ high school state tournament. Harry Brown, Cary Eades, Keith Schafer and Chuck Watson are the 2012 inductees.
