MGHCA to support the Wounded Warriors

The coaches, players and teams of the MGHCA are being asked to support the Minnesota Wounded Warriors hockey team this season by holding a fundraiser at one home game.

The type of fundraiser is up to each individual home team. All proceeds from these fundraisers will be forwarded to the MGHCA Executive Director. Once all of the team’s fundraisers have been completed, the MGHCA will then forward all of the monies collected to the Minnesota Warriors hockey team.

The Minnesota Warriors are teams comprised of U.S. armed forces veterans who have sustained disabilities as a result of wounds or illness while serving in the military. The program educates, trains, motivates and encourages individuals who have physical or mental disabilities incurred during service to the United States, to participate in the sport of ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to the level of ability of the participating athlete, as well as assist veterans with disabilities and to promote awareness of challenges our veterans face and to encourage team building.

The program uses the game of hockey to build camaraderie and a sense of community, as well as a connection to the community that supports them. In addition, it assists veterans with disabilities in developing self-confidence and to assist in helping participants back into mainstream lifestyle they were accustomed to prior to their disabilities, that will help the individual be more successful both within and outside a hockey environment.
