Cliff Thompson Award winner: Bart Larson

Given for, "long term outstanding contributions to the sport of hockey in Minnesota," this award is given in memory of Cliff Thompson. As the coach at Eveleth, Thompson was the only man ever to coach teams to four consecutive state championships (1948-51). The list of his former players reads as a "who's who" in Minnesota hockey. Winners of this award are listed in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Loyalty, commitment, and passion are at the heart of who Bart Larson is. As the long-time coach and teacher at Edina High School is honored as the MHCA’s Cliff Thompson winner, he does so having earned it through his dedication to the hockey and the kids he coached.

Oscar Almquist Award winner: Bill Kronschnabel

The Oscar Almquist Award is given annually to a non-coach individual who has contributed to the success of high school hockey by advancing opportunities for players and coaches.

In 36 years as a Minnesota State High School League official, Bill Kronschnabel left his mark as one of the best and most respected men to officiate the game.

Bruce Johnson Award winner: Greg Rajanen

The Bruce Johnson Award is given to an active Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association board member, or an individual who has recently served on the board, for outstanding contributions in promoting the association and the sport of hockey.

For more than 30 years now, Greg Rajanen has been involved in coaching high school hockey in the state of Minnesota.

Dave Peterson Award winner: Dave Esse

The Dave Peterson Award is given annually to a high school coach who has shown great leadership in developing youth hockey either locally or statewide.

Dave Esse has been a part of the staff at Cloquet/Esko/Carlton for 21 years, including the last 11 seasons as the Lumberjacks’ head coach.

MHCA inducts four into Hall of Fame

The Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association (MHCA) inducted four hockey legends into the Hall of Fame during the boys’ high school state tournament. Harry Brown, Cary Eades, Keith Schafer and Chuck Watson are the 2012 inductees.
