The Twin Cities Northern Lights are your 2011-12 Bush Cup champions.
The two teams played six total periods to decide a Bush Cup champion last weekend, but for the most part, the best-of-three series between Twin Cities and Rochester came down to a 20-minute stanza late Friday night.

Rochester Ice Hawks head coach Nick Fatis paused, almost as if he was circumnavigating his two hands from thumb to thumb, just to make sure.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and nine.
“Yeah, nine, you are right,” Fatis concluded. “That’s sounds pretty good to say out loud.”
Hawks’ Beasley back where it all began

Tyler Beasley skated off the ice at the Rochester Recreation Center last April, his body limp and mind blank after what he called the most disappointing loss of his hockey playing career.
Beasley and his El Paso teammates had just dropped the Tier III junior hockey national championship game that day, falling to the Helena Bighorns 5-1.
Beasley would lead the entire tournament with 11 points in his five games, which included an assist on the game-winning goal in the Rhino’s 2-1 victory over the Idaho Steelheads in the national semifinals.
That outburst came on the heels of a regular season in which Beasley paced the entire Western States Hockey League with 99 points (42 goals, 57 assists) in 48 regular season games.
None of it, however, was enough to erase the gut-wrenching feeling such a defeat can deliver.
Bush Cup Playoffs begin this weekend

The Bush Cup Playoffs begin in earnest this weekend, as the chase for a spot in the Tier III National Tournament gets underway for six of the seven Minnesota Junior Hockey League clubs.
The regular season champion Twin Cities Northern Lights earned a bye for the quarterfinal round of the playoff after finishing off 42-5-1 run through the MnJHL season with two more victories this past weekend.

The last time the Twin Cities Northern Lights lost a hockey game, it had yet to snow in these parts.
Considering the type of winter Minnesota has experienced in recent months, that statement could qualify as hyperbole.
But there is nothing exaggerated about the type of season the Northern Lights have put together.
