Ducks’ Rowe commits to Bethel University

The message was to the point, and it was delivered as such by Dells Ducks head coach Shaun Falzone last summer.

Goaltender Matt Rowe had just completed his first tryout with the team, and Falzone knew the Fox River Grove, Ill. native had aspirations of playing college hockey at some point.

Former Ice Hawk focusing on skill and studies

Shaun Walters, a Rochester Ice Hawks alumni, has continued his playing career with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Corsairs. Playing every game (20 gp) this season so far, the freshman forward from Plymouth, Mich., has three goals and five assists. Shaun played three seasons with the Ice Hawks after high school starting in the 2008-09 season, playing a total of 146 games with 109 goals and 99 assists.

Fire still burning inside and out for Owls’ Erickson

Someday in the not-to-distant future, a fire bell will ring somewhere, and Robert Erickson will be on his way to help answer the call.

Unless it’s the newly minted Coon Rapids (Minn.) Ice Center that catches ablaze, chances are good there won’t be any hockey related particulars to the call Erickson goes on.

And despite his rise to an elite Tier III Junior A hockey player, that’s just fine.

Long, winding road lands Shibata with Lakers

The relative nature of the idea seemed odd for Edina Lakers forward Tadayoshi Shibata. Ice, after all, was something you treasured and skated on. Not fish out of.

“I’ve never gone ice  fishing before, so today is a first,” admitted Shibata during an off-day earlier this week. “It’s a little strange, but it should be fun. I’m just going to try and keep warm.”

He’s been plenty of that on another form of ice, leading Edina in scoring throughout the year with 36 points in 39 games, which include 21 goals, the last of which he potted late in the third period this past Friday night to give the Lakers a 2-1 victory the Hudson Crusaders.

Work ethic helps Krieger get from Lakers to NAHL

Carl Krieger, a former player for the Minnesota Junior Hckey League’s Edina Lakers, has continued his hockey career into the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Already well into the 2011-12 season, the defenseman has played 37 games with the Minot Minotauros, accruing two goals, five assists and 32 penalty minutes.

Krieger played most of the 2010-11 season with the Lakers, having started playing his first games in October. He played 39 regular season and two playoff games with the Lakers, accumulating five goals and 16 assists.
