It’s a cliché phrase that a life can change in a blink of an eye. However, it’s a phrase, although often overlooked, that brings truth to an unsettling time. For Jack Jablonski, a 16-year-old high school sophomore at Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School, his life changed just like that – in a blink of an eye.

What appeared to be a typical Friday night hockey game, took a turn for the worse in the second period when Jablonski was checked from behind into the boards. What started out as a blink of an eye turned into several minutes that Jablonski did not move. Adams and Wahlin Reunite in Austin

By Rocky Hulne

Austin Daily Herald

When two of the Austin Bruins’ top two scorers take the ice every night, they may occasionally reflect back on their days of youth hockey.

Both coming from White Bear Lake, Minn., Brandon Wahlin and Charlie Adams were very aware of each other growing up.

They played against each other in youth hockey and they played as teammates on some summer hockey teams. However, they never faced each other in high school as Wahlin, who is in his first year on the Bruins, played for White Bear Lake High School, which is in Class ‘AA’, and Adams, who is a second year Bruins player, played for Mahtomedi, which is in Class ‘A.’

“We knew each other pretty well (before playing for the Bruins),” Adams said. “We’d always talk to each other in youth hockey and it was fun.”

Jackalopes' Willie Faust Commits to Army

The Odessa Jackalopes of the North American Hockey League announced on Monday that forward Willie Faust (Stillwater, Minn.) has committed to NCAA Division I Army for the 2012-13 season. Faust is the second Jackalopes player in the past month to commit to a Division I hockey program, following Odessa goaltender Connor Hellebuck’s commitment to UMass-Lowell in November.

Faust is the Jackalopes’ leading goal-scorer with 11, and is second overall in points with 17 in 26 games. He is also one of Head Coach Paul Gillis’ captains.

“Just having the opportunity to play at West Point is an amazing thing,” said Faust, who will compete in the Atlantic Hockey Association. “It will certainly be a challenge, but it is something that I put a lot of thought into and it’s the best fit for me. I am honored.”
