Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association (RAYHA_ goalie clinics are back for their 12th straight year! The clinics are scheduled on Saturdays about every other week at the Roseville Ice Arena. The first one of the season took place Oct. 27, with the second clinic occurring Nov. 10. The clinics feature goalie specific drills and education and are run by Pro Hybrid.

Gearing up and growing in numbers

By Minnesota Hockey

To combat costs while introducing boys and girls to hockey, the Gear Up Minnesota! grant program – a joint effort between Minnesota Hockey, Total Hockey and the Minnesota Wild Foundation – awarded starter hockey equipment grants to 39 community youth hockey associations in Minnesota last year. More than $130,000 in equipment was provided to youth hockey families and associations in Minnesota.

North St. Paul Area Hockey Association, Sauk Rapids Youth Hockey Association and Sartell Youth Hockey Association are putting those grants to great use this season – and are already seeing a tremendous response.

OneHockey Gone Wild Youth International Tournament is a go!

We sat down with OneHockey this week as we wanted to find out more about the OneHockey “GOLD WILD” INTERNATIONAL Minnesota Tournament. Here was the response from tournament director David Walcott.

“First, we would like to thank our host Blaine Youth Hockey Association for their hospitality, and The Twin Cities Gateway Convention & Visitors Bureau for their support.

“Teams from the far reaches of the Hockey World are planning to attend our first OneHockey Gone Wild Youth International Hockey Tournament.  We have seven Bauer Selects teams from Latvia, teams like Calgary Edge Prep, Russell Stover, Arizona Bobcats, Shattuck-St. Mary’s and many more. So far, 40 teams are registered but our target number of 70 teams is not too far away. This will be a unique and exciting youth event.

RAYHA Hockey Center update

The Roseville Arena Youth Hockey Association (RAYHA) Hockey Center is back for an unprecedented fifth straight this year, beginning with our second appearance at St. Jerome Elementary School in September, followed by Emmet Williams. We then skated on over to Little Canada Elementary for the school’s annual Pumpkin Carnival. Three carnivals and there is not even ice on the oval yet!

This was our fourth year at the Carnival, and as always was a big hit with the kids. Little Canada Elementary Principal Garin Bogenholm noted that last year, “Hundreds of students rotated through the shooting and photo stations and helped Little Canada raise a significant amount of money for student field trip scholarships. Students (both hockey and non-hockey playing students), were genuinely excited to see RAYHA return after a successful trial in 2009 and the promotional sticks, pucks and pencils were a huge hit.”

Fair Play standards enter eighth season

Youth teams around the state are getting ready for league play. Thoughts of district, regional, and state championships may be starting to swirl around in the heads of many players, coaches, and parents.  Before everyone gets wrapped up in winning games, Minnesota Hockey wants to remind you about the rules of Fair Play which have been guiding sportsmanship in the hockey community for the past seven years.

Fair Play is about developing youth hockey players on and off the ice by teaching them to respect the rules, their opponents, officials and their decisions, and how to maintain self-control. By placing an emphasis on these things, you can reduce penalties, aggressive and dangerous behavior, and injuries while increasing the amount of fun everyone has.
