Top-ranked Orono and No. 2 Academy of Holy Angels set to meet Saturday

Orono maintained the top spot in this week’s Let’s Play Hockey rankings presented by Tradition Companies.

The Spartans lost and tied two top Class AA teams last week, losing a close 4-3 contest to No. 7AA Centennial/Spring Lake Park and tying No. 4AA Benilde-St. Margaret’s 1-1.

Their schedule won’t get any easier as they will host No. 3AA Andover Thursday before hosting No. 2A Academy of Holy Angels on Saturday.

Holy Angels improved to 11-2-3 with a win over defending Class AA Champion Gentry Academy, 3-1. They also tied No. 12AA Woodbury 2-2 and No. 13AA Champlin Park/Coon Rapids 2-2.

Duluth Marshall continued their winning ways and leads the state with 16 wins and Dodge County improved to 14-2-0.

The top 5 teams are from four distinct regions of the state with Orono and Holy Angels in the metro, Duluth Marshall in the northeast, Dodge County in the south and Warroad in the north, a testament to the quality of Class A girls hockey throughout the entire state of hockey.
