Hibbing/Chisholm beats two Top 5 opponents and Hermantown skates to tie with No. 2AA Pioneers

With a pair of convincing wins over two Top 15 teams, Hibbing/Chisholm held onto the top ranking with Hermantown a close second in this week’s rankings.

The Hawks took on No. 2AA Hill-Murray and skated to a 2-2 tie. Hibbing/Chisholm, meanwhile, defeated No. 15A Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 5-2 and then beat No. 11A St. Cloud Cathedral 6-2 to improve to 3-0-0 on the season. In their win over C/E/C they got a hat trick from sophomore Cole Swanson and Ethan Sundvall added a goal and two assists. In their win over Cathedral Isaiah Hildebrand had two goals and Cole and Tate Swanson each had three assists.

Hermantown stayed at No. 2 in the rankings after an impressive outing against Hill-Murray. The Pioneers outshot the Hawks 42-37 in a back and forth battle. Kole Lendzyk and Bode Madill each scored for the Hawks and Bryce Francisco stopped 40 shots on goal.

Sartell-St. Stephen jumped a pair of spots to No. 3 after a 5-0 win over St. Cloud. Preston Deragisch had a goal and two assists and Brayden Klande scored twice in the win as the Sabres improved to 2-0-0.

Delano dropped a spot to No. 4 after a 6-3 loss to Buffalo and Warroad fell from No. 4 to No. 5 despite a 3-1 win over Bemidji. Earlier last week they fell to No. 1AA Moorhead. Their drop in the rankings was more of a product of Sartell’s rise. They also lost to Delano in the season opener.

Warroad will take on defensing champion East Grand Forks tonight. The Green Wave jumped to No. 6 after a 3-2 win over Grand Forks Central (ND). Mahtomedi, Blake, Northfield and Breck make up the rest fop the top 10. Minneapolis enters the rankings at No. 20.
