The nightcap was a matchup between a first timer and an Edina program that looks at a trip to St. Paul as an annual holiday.

The Royals jumped out to an early lead in the second period when Mr Hockey Finalist Mason Jenson lit the lamp at the four minute mark of the middle frame.

Edina responded with a goal of their own (14:00) as Freddie Schneider found Bode McConnell from below the goal line to net his 16th goal of the season and first of the tournament.

After no winner in regulation, Caleb Pittsley was the hero for the Hornets as he netted the game-winner and his 21st of the season at the 6:53 mark of the extra-session. Pittsley intercepted a pass at the Rogers blue line and fired a bullet into the back of the net to send the Hornets back to the semifinals.

The Hornets held a 29-to-24 shots on goal advantage over Rogers.

In net, Chase Bjorgaard turned aside 23 shots on net through regulation and overtime.

Edina punched their ticket to tomorrow’s semi-final matchup where they will face off against the No. 1 seeded Moorhead Spuds at 8 p.m.
