Michigan, Michigan State, North Dakota and
Minnesota Duluth round out top five

The defending national champion Denver Pioneers are ranked right where they left off last season. The Pionners are ranked No. 1 in the USA preseason poll, as expected.

Denver is coming off their second national championship in two years and their third int the past five. They return 18 players from last year’s championship squad.

Denver received 29 of 34 first-place votes. The University of Michigan comes in at No 2 and Michigan State No. 3. The Spartans received three first-place votes.

The University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota-Duluth round out the top 5.

UMD could be a team to watch as they return Hobey Baker Award winner Max Plante along with 13 other upperclassmen.

The Gophers, coming off an 11-22-3 record and the second most losses in a season in program history are ranked No. 18. They are under the tutelage of a new coach as Brett Larson will look to lead them back into national contention.

Minnesota State-Mankato is ranked No. 17 after a 22-11-7 mark last year. The Mavericks reached the national title game in 2022, losing to Denver 5–1. That team was led by Mike Hastings, who is now the bench boss at the University of Wisconsin. The Badgers are ranked No. 6 heading into the season.

The season opens this weekend.
