White Bear Lake rebounds from loss to beat Stillwater

There was an exciting 42-game slate on Tuesday night, so let’s take a lap around the state of hockey and recap the games. 

#15AA White Bear Lake took a trip to Stillwater Tuesday to battle unranked Stillwater.

St. Cloud State Commit Nolan Roed was everywhere, scoring a goal and two assists in the Bears 5-3 win over Stillwater. Stillwater’s Blake Vanek, Carson Kingbay, and Luke Meyers all scored to get the Ponies tied  3-3 in the third period, but White Bear lake added a a pair of third-period goals and a Jack Stanius empty netter sealed the win for the Bears. Jack Stanius had two goals, and Nolan Roed, Maverick Tommons also scored in the win.

A first-period goal by Aiden Dufault of Moorhead was the lone tally of the contest as the #19AA-ranked Spuds skated to a 1-0 win over #17AA Roseau. Kai Weigel was flawless, stopping all 37 shots in the shutout victory, while Connor Woidtke was solid in net stopping 25 of 26 in the loss. 

Duluth East played host to Forest Lake in a high-scoring affair. Kyle Peterson’s two goals lifted the Greyhounds to a 5-3 win. Wyatt Peterson had a goal, Thomas Gunderson had a goal and two assists, and Caden Cole had a goal and assist in the win. Caden Speidel, Landen Roberts, and Ryder Siedow all had goals in the loss. 

#20AA Grand Rapids hosted Proctor on Tuesday and Seth Carlson was the star of the show netting a hat trick in the Thunderhawks’ 6-1 win over Proctor. Jacob Garski had three helpers, Nathan Garski had one goal and three assists, Bauer Murphy, and William Shermoen scored goals in the win while Austin Bryant scored the lone goal for Proctor. 

#11A Ranked Hibbing/Chisholm skated to a demanding 6-2 win over Duluth Denfield. Jack Gabardi and Jace Kampsula had two goals in the win and Kelin Eisner and Hunter Gustavsson both scored a goal in the win. John Scott and Valtteri Luhtalampi both scored in the loss. Rex Walli had 24 saves from 26 shots in the win.

#6AA Benilde-St. Margaret’s played host to #8AA Andover in a top-top AA battle on Tuesday. A three-goal first period from Benjamin Norris, Nik Wahlstrom, and Westan Quirk gave the Red Knights a 3-0 lead, and with a Caleb Koskie goal, BSM had a demanding lead in the third. Andover attempted a comeback with Landon Stringfellow and Brooks Cogswell’s goals, but the two-goal lead was too much to overcome, and Benilde-St. Margaret’s went on to win 4-2. Huskies netminder Cash Cruitt made 42 saves in the loss, while Mason McElroy had 17 saves in the win.

Chisago Lakes took down Cambridge-Isanti 6-2. 

Coon Rapids, who are just on the outside looking in on our rankings, routed Blaine 10-0. 

Eastview beat Eagan 8-2

Prior Lake beat Farmington 4-1

#13AA Ranked Shakopee took down Lakeville North 5-1 on Tuesday. 

#19A ranked Minneapolis shutout Litchfield/Dassel Cokato 8-0. 

Windom fell to Marshall 6-0

Hutchinson lost to Minnesota River 4-1

New Ulm shutout Redwood Valley 6-0

North Shore takes down Ely 4-1

Detriot Lakes routed Park Rapids 11-0

Three players scored four points in #10A ranked Monticello’s shootout win over Pine City Area. Landen Scherber had a hat trick and one assist, scoring his seventh goal through four games this season. Gunner Simon had two goals and two assists, and Romas Thompson had a goal and three assists in the win. Liam O’Donnell had one goal in the victory. Gavin Broz also had a hat trick and an assist, McCall Leger had two goals and two assists, and Milo Rydberg scored a goal in the loss. 



Robbinsdale Armstrong Cooper fell to Providence Academy in a close scoring a 7-6 loss. 

Rochester Lourdes won 6-4 over Winona

#6A Mahtomedi went head-to-head with South St. Paul and after a first-period Roddick Simons goal it looked like SSP may brew up an upset. Still, after a five-goal middle frame by Mahtomedi scored by Wyatt Tarnowski, Brayden Fuerst, Jake Hodd-Chelbeck and two from Winston Wright, the Zyphers took over the game, running away with a 9-4 win. Jake Hodd-Chelbeck also scored two goals, while Austin Felling, Gene Wegleitner, and Patrick Egan all scored a goal in the win. Tim Krech, Jack McClellan, Roddick Simons, and Caleb Erdman scored for South St. Paul in the loss.

St. Cloud routed St. Michael-Albertville 7-4.

Wadena-Deer Creek wins second in a row with a win over Prairie Centre 5-3.

Waseca ran away with a 19-0 win over Worthington.

Duluth Marshall lost in a close battle to Superior 2-1.

#13A Ranked Little Falls routed Sauk-Rapids Rice 7-3.

#12A Ranked Northern Lakes took down Greenway 7-3. The Lightning’s Jerome Martin scored two goals and an assist, Taylor Berg had two goals, Easton Anderson, Wyatt Balmer, and Isaac Peterson all scored in the win. Caiden Carpenter, Hayden Clow, and Layn Hustad had goals in the loss.

Becker/Big Lake routed Moose Lake Area 12-2.

Wyatt Farrell, who is chasing a scoring record book this season, scored an incredible seven points with four goals, and three assists in La Crescent-Hokah’s 13-1 win over Viroqua. Noah Gillette also had three goals and two assists, Cooper Hill, Ethan Myhre, Asher Voves, and Colton Holzer scored one goal, and Michal Stojka added two goals and three assists. Joey Hertel had the lone goal in the loss. 

Brainerd shut out River Lakes 5-0. 

Mankato West shut out Rochester Mayo in a close matchup 2-0.

New Prague scored seven in a 7-4 routing against Bloomington Kennedy

#14A Ranked Alexandria falls to 1-2-1 after a 3-2 loss against Sartell St. Stephan. 

Bemidji takes the battle of the north over Thief River Falls in a 4-1 win. The Lumberjacks get their first win of the season, and move their record to 1-2-0.

Morris/Benson Area squeezed by Willmar 1-0. Christopher Danielson had one of the best goalie performances of the evening with a 45-save shutout over Willmar. Mason Thole saved 16 of 17 in the loss. 

Lake of the Woods took down Bagley/Fosston 5-2. 

St. Paul Johnson dropped the game against Austin 5-3.
