Defending national champions earn 15th title in program history

SAINT PETER, Minn. – For the 15th time in program history and the fourth consecutive postseason, the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties are Women’s Hockey Playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
The top-seeded Gusties defeated No. 3 seed Saint Mary’s, 2-0, in the conference tournament finale on Saturday afternoon.
Following the game, Gustavus received the MIAC Playoff Championship plaque and the Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gustavus will learn its next opponent on Sunday night when the NCAA releases its 2024 national tournament field.

-Gustavus got on the board less than seven minutes into the game thanks to a Macy Janssen goal at 6:48 in the first period.
-The Gusties maintained a 1-0 advantage until an even-strength insurance goal by Kaitlyn Holland came 43 seconds into the third frame.
-Both defenses were perfect against the power play, with Saint Mary’s stopping one and Gustavus killing all three in the game.
-Gustavus goaltender Katie McCoy recorded 23 saves in the shutout while Celeste Rimstad logged 15 in defeat for the Cardinals.

-With the victory, Gustavus earned the MIAC’s automatic qualifier to the 2024 NCAA Women’s Hockey Tournament. This will be the Gusties’ 17th trip to the NCAA Tournament.
-The MIAC Playoff title is the 15th for Gustavus all-time, and the program’s fourth in a row.
-Gustavus was No. 4 in the most recent NCAA Pairwise Rankings, while Saint Mary’s was No. 12. There are seven automatic qualifiers and four at-large spots for the NCAA Women’s Hockey Tournament.
