No. 4 Buckeyes beat No. 2 Gophers

Emma Peschel

Emma Peschel (Benilde-St. Margaret’s HS) had two assists as No. 4 Ohio State defeated No. 2 Minnesota 4-2 Friday in Columbus. The Gophers got a late goal from Gracie Graham (Fort Nelson, BC), but it was too late as the Buckeyes held on for the win. The loss was Minnesota’s first on the season.

“Obviously, not the result we wanted,” said head coach Brad Frost. “We played hard in spurts, played hard the whole game, but unfortunately we gave up a couple power play goals for them. We lost a couple net front battles. Credit Ohio State and how hard they go to the net. We need to do a better job of picking up sticks and clearing out there, but we’re excited to get back to it tomorrow.”

On Saturday the teams skated to a 1-1 tie. Josefin Bouveng (Uppssala, SWE) scored the lone Gopher goal. Emily Zumwinkle (Excelsior, MN/Breck HS) assisted on Ohio State’s lone goal. Zumwinkle played three full seasons for Minnesota before transferring to Ohio State this year.
