Jori Jones honored, remembered before game
The Roseville hockey community celebrated the life of Jori Jones with a tribute prior to their game against Mounds View/Irondale Tuesday in Roseville.
Jones, a former Roseville standout goaltender who went on to become a member of the NCAA National Champion Gustavus hockey squad last season, died this summer in an automobile accident while traveling with teammates from a team bonding trip.
Members of the MVI team presented the Jones Family with flowers as there was 33 seconds of silence in honor of Jones who wore #33. The lobby was full of Jori Jones tribute items, including jerseys, sticks, awards and accolades. Jones’ number became the third number to be retired on the wall of the arena along with former Hobey Baker Award winner Marty Sertich and women’s hockey pioneer Winny Brodt.
Jones’ younger sister,Kylie, is a senior on this year’s Roseville/Mahtomedi squad. The Marauders won the game, 2-1.
