The Moose held off a strong Minneapolis squad to maintain the top spot in Class A Boys Hockey.
Moose hold off Minneapolis and Moorhead outlasts STA
Both Monticello and Moorhead earned close hard-fought victories last week to stay on top of the rankings in their respective classes. 
Top-ranked Monticello stayed unbeaten with a hard-fought 2-1 win over No. 12A Minneapolis at Parade Ice Arena Friday. The Moose outshot Minneapolis 31-15, but needed two third-period goals to improve to 11-0-1 on the season.
Wilson Lamberty got Minneapolis on board in the second period after a scoreless first frame. It stayed that way unil the 14-minute mark of the third when Levi Welle knotted the game at 1-1 with Landon Scherber assisting. Nathan Poeppel then netted the game winner at the 16:36 mark with Aidan Widmarkand Scherber assisting. Moose goalie Logan Blahnik stopped 14 shots to earn the win in goal. Minneapolis netminder Griffin Simpson had 29 saves.
Not much else change din the Class A rankings.
In AA, on Saturday No. 1 AA Moorhead beat No. 3AA St. Thomas Academy 2-1 in overtime. Mason Kraft scored both goals for the Spuds as he is putting together a monster season and helping lead Moorhead to a 13-1-0 mark thus far.
Hill-Murray is still unbeaten at No. 2 as the top six teams in AA stayed the same. White Bear Lake beat Stillwater last Tuesday to slide up to No. 7 as the Ponies slipped to No. 9. Rosemount dropped to No. 8 as the musical chairs continued in Class AA’s 7-12 teams. Grand Rapids also snuck into the top 10 with a win over Wayzata.
